I expect Adventuress Rachel to be kind to children, but to otherwise be a bitch-on-wheels. Sound about right? Dumb. Never even thought about using wands of opening on chests. Thanks for the tip.
More re Aesthetics I dipped into 100 Rogues. It might be a very good game and I expect to play more. But, compared with Fargoal, it is so damned ugly (hideous when double-pixeled, but just plain ugly when not). Having not played computer games since birth, as many of you guys have, I sometimes can't get past the crude look of some games, no matter how great the gameplay might be. I want the whole experience in every game I play -- terrific adventure in a beautiful environment. Not talking of beauty as in Myst, but aesthetics that perfectly match and enhance the game. Does this make me a shallow person? (Lyle Lovett)
Nice little update, but allow me to point out something. I am playing on Legend and for the past two character levels the hit points have not increased. I am currently lvl 22 and have 121 hit points, it just struck me as odd. Was this an intentional part of the design for Legend mode or is it something else?
yep, its all part of Madgarden's HP balancing plan, its on all 3 modes. He doesn't want you to, nor should you be able to, get to level 177 with a bazillion HP's any more. OK maybe I exaggerate a bit, but you catch my drift. It took too long to heal, wasn't true to the old game, and isn't terribly realistic. It also makes battles go quicker which may or may not be noticed. It also makes you have to rely on your spells and potion a lot more and not just on your HP's (IMO of course).
Just think of it like this... at level 20, you are at your natural peak physical condition, like Conan. At level 25, you're still more or less Conan, I mean how do you get MORE Conan? OK, maybe you can get a *wee* bit more Conan. But, you're still frickin' Conan, man.
Blessings Question: Okay, I know that when you go to the temple with 2000 gold accumulated, both you and whatever shield you might be carrying are blessed. I don't exactly count (would I get kicked out of the casino if I did?) but I hope and try to be wielding a shield when I hit the magic number. Sometimes I avoid the temple and search frantically for a shield to steal so that I can get the full benefit. What I do not know is what it means to my hero to be blessed with a fanfare when I'm not equipped with a shield. Just instant restoration of hit points? My Rachel1 game is driving me mad because I'm usually without any shield (or shield spell, for that matter). So far, except for an unusually high level of enchantments down to dungeon 5, I have found very little of anything I need or want. C'mon Rachel1, get lucky!
Yeah, if you are unlucky enough to not have a shield, then you will just get full restore of HP and maybe a sword enchantment ( I don't know if that happens every time, hence the maybe). Sounds to me like Hero Paul was much more lucky! Seems to be that way in real life too...hah! Don't count your Rachel1 out though, Rachel's by nature are resilient little critters and they may not look like much, but tend to be tough as nails.
Rachel's coming through. Continues to be enchanting...ummm highly enchanted. And she finally found some decent potions and a war shield. We never give up, Rachel and I. Your tip re using wands of opening to check out closed chests has been a great help during this adventure, so thanks.
Jeez, I wish it would give me a temple shield, but It doesn't work that way. I think one has to actually find one of those and then cherish it as long as possible. Gotta have a shield equipped to get it made stronger by blessing. Like life, the rich get richer; the poor...not so much.
So I finally beat the game in Hero Mode. Four times I died and it was totally my fault. One time I was triple teamed by two Fyre dragons and a Shadow dragon, all three from the shadows. During one of my games I found a gem, and it looked like I was supposed to sacrifice the gem at the temple, but I couldn't. A bug? It was in an earlier version (1.2 I believe), so it could have been fixed in the new update. Anyways, thank you SO MUCH to the devs for making such a fantastic game. Even when I died after hours of gameplay, it kept me coming back. I really enjoyed it, and am about to start a character on Legend mode! I'm pretty screwed. I was able to get the game for free when it was available, but look forward to giving you my money when the DLC is available.
Yay nafkert on retreiving the sword! The gems aren't suppose to show up, they won't hurt anything as you probably figured out. They are ideas that were being toyed with and hopefully they become a useful part of the game in the next update or two from now. SO I guess consider yourself lucky to have found one! heh!
Congrats, Trekkie! (Yes, I'm on to your little backwards masking nickname shenanigans.) It's one of the coolest things about the game that no matter how much it punishes you, especially for your own mistakes, you keep coming back for more, determined to beat it at its own game. That's always the mark of a damn good game. Legend mode is ... brutal. Brutally brutal. Positively lousy with brutality. You'll love it.
So I'm contemplating about what to do next, whether to go further onwards or just grab the sword and get it over with. I'm on Legend mode, am experience lvl 23, have 63 sword enhancements, have a temple shield, dragon eye, 4 lion eyes, 2 silver orbs, quite a lot of pots and scrolls and on dungeon level 23. Should I just go deeper, or better yet I should ask: how deep is the dungeon? I've noticed beyond dungeon level 20 auto-mapping is no more which to be honest is sort of killing my enthusiasm to go further. Overall I have enjoyed the enhancements made to the game, to my surprise I've spent more time on it than I really ought to with any game.
The dungeon currently goes to floor 27... what do you mean auto-mapping is no more? Shouldn't matter what floor you're on... are you sure you didn't accidentally turn off the mini-map? Check the menu/map.
Huh, well that is odd. I've never been around that section of the options before... I wonder how it was turned off. In any case, thanks for that. With that done I'll think I'll map my way to dungeon level 27 and then grab the sword.
I am drooling. Also in awe that you've got all those goodies and power and are still grooving in Legend mode. Let us know the next chapter in your story, ok?
