I hate your job Madgarden. I really, truly do. It's like some office tart, distracting you from your true calling: creating massive free updates! :p

If I ever see your job walking down the street... someone better hold me back!

nonexist, ahh you want new stuff eh? You're going to be frickin' buried in new stuff. :D

Santoron, aha, good thing I have my wife to protect me! ;) And yes, I'm not too keen on my job either. :/ Ahh well, I'll just keep at the iPhone thang 'til it takes off for me. At least it's fun. :)

  3. You know, I don't live too far from his job. You want I should pay it a little visit? :D

Ah, if it's any consolation Paul, I know all about doing it part time. I barely get time to work on my own stuff. But I pick away at it every night. Eventually it'll get somewhere. :)

Just wanted to drop in and say that I really love this game, and will be one of the bests roguelikes on the iphone, at least till jet packs are made into an app. Then that would be the best roguelike ever.

    This.
Madgarden I appreciate you are working on it flat out in your spare time and I respect that but you really shouldn't be quoting when it'll be ready and then ignoring it. It was originally said we'd be looking at Xmas/New Year for this update and it's now nearly March! Then a few weeks back there was a post saying submission date was looking good for Sunday... didn't happen. Now it doesn't look like it'll be out by the end of the month as you suggested. I know it's only an update and therefore quite a trivial thing but one of my pet hates is being told a deadline only for it to be broken. If someone says they'll meet me at 6pm then I expect them at 6pm, maybe 6.05pm at the latest. It's just the way I am, sorry mate.

bluewomble88, hey man... I'm not so good with estimating timelines against variable development schedules, heh. So anyway, if you quit askin' I'll quit makin' bad estimates. Dig? ;)

    Still... maybe this weekend! :p

    Thanks mebeswordguy!

Added another monster last night, and another funky trap, amongst other fixes and things. There are basically 2-3 features to finish off, and all the work thus far has been building toward them. What really takes time are the various fixes, refinements, testing, re-testing... that stuff you just can't easily anticipate.

Take your time, the longer it takes, the more stable and better it will be.

Added another monster last night... that makes 3 newbies so far, and there's one more coming yet.

BoarDumb, Very happy about this! Would never want to spoil the game for others and I very much respect you and others who are dedicated to traditional rules.

Interestingly, I'm not at all sure that I will choose the easy (no permadeath) option the next time around, but I love having choices.

Cheers. And, while I've got your eyes, thanks for all your helpful explanations of stuff in other posts here. I am learning from the masters, and that's fun.

Wow -- I didn't realize you were adding separate leaderboards later on. You guys are terrific.

No fair. I know we are all (always) real eager for updates for our fave games. But, I have to say I feel it's not cool to keep pushing first-class developers so hard and so forcefully. I'm certain they're doing the best they can to make this great game even better and there's no reason they should have to apologize for delays. It's a game, friends, not a liver transplant. And I wish we could all be patient.

Awesome! I had never played a rogue before, they seemed so daunting and overwhelming, but this is fun as heck.

    Hey All,

    Re: Update

I think Paul's (madgarden's) recent tweet on Twitter says it all: "@madgarden: This Sword of Fargoal update is like 5 updates rolled into one super-mega-awesome one. Man, can't wait to unleash..."

All I can say is, that it will be worth the wait!

    Much more soon,

    Jeff McCord

The issue is that (and I have seen this plenty times before) the update never ever gets finished/done because you keep putting more and more as you get more and more ideas. As you attempt to put more and more into it, it pushes release back further and further until it just never ever gets released. At some point you have to cut it off and say "ok this is my release" other stuff will be in next release.

    Tikki000, good point!

We are at that point right now — We've basically "locked features" and are simply making sure everything works so we can release it ASAP! Still testing, testing, testing, but nearly done.

No Tikki000, the issue is that we are an *extremely* small team with *very* limited resources, and quality work takes time. So, I can quickly churn out crap, or take the time and effort to do it properly.

Hope you didnt think it was a knock against you...it wasnt meant to be. It is just something that sometimes tends to happen. ;)
