Better known as "kitchen sink syndrome." Unfortunately it's really, really easy to become afflicted with it because you often have so many really cool, awesome, wicked ideas players are just going to freakin' love that you can't bring yourself to stop adding for fear of making a half-assed release, and instead opting for a longer development cycle so you can make the release truly epic. You can tread that line for a while and hopefully draw out the hype -- how long depends on how good your game is in the first place -- but eventually it stops mattering how epic the release is shaping up to be because people just give up hope of ever seeing it. Fortunately for Jeff and Paul, we're an impatiently patient lot and the game is good enough that it's well worth the wait.
I'm here... was waiting for you guys to say something. Um, no update ready yet, and I dare not say *when* I think it will be, but I am working on the last few items.
Well, I'm glad you're still around, Paul. I, for one, am not holding my breath or giving up any of the fun while waiting for the update. Decided, for now, that I don't want to die, so I've got a Level 63 character wandering happily through all the lowest dungeon floors. Probably will try to rescue the sword (and die trying) when you guys announce the update is imminent, squeezing all the pleasure of the original. Still hoping for some extra beacons because, on floors where I have them, play is ---- dare I say it? ----"relaxing."
Wow Doffie... level 63! Yes, such high levels won't be possible in the update, but really it's a good thing. It will avoid so much grinding. But I can see by some of these high-level chars what it is that some people like about the game... the exploring of every nook and cranny, and powering up of their hero. The update will satisfy both needs more than the current version does. FYI, I am now trimming some remaining features for this update so we can get it ready very soon. These features can wait 'til next time.
Sounds terrific, Paul. Whenever this update is ready, I will risk my life, maybe win and maybe die, and happily begin all over again. Again, thank you for a good game "as is" and I'm certain all future updates will be delicious.
Help, Please My poor hero seems to be permanently levitated. I've moved him around several dungeon levels, used healing several times, tried everything, but he won't hit the ground. Is there anything I can do? Not even sure whether I can grab the sword in this state, is that true?
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe your guy is screwed. This same thing happened to someone a few months ago, and Paul explains that it is indeed a bug in this post. The good news is that I believe it should be fixed in the forthcoming update, so it shouldn't happen anymore. Look at it this way, maybe it's for the best. Your character was at such a high level he was too powerful for his own good. That probably didn't help, but I tried. Sorry that happened to you.
Think of it like this. Your hero is now SO POWERFUL that even gravity is having a hard time dealing with his might
Ah, thank you BOARDUM and VeganTnT. I was pretty sure I was doomed. Doesn't matter so much though, as I still had a lot of fun and expect. Permalevitation, what a fate!
Ah yeah, that darn bug Hero will come down to earth once you run the update. I was just playing around with barrels and rats ...another long codin' day.
How godlike you are, Paul. To be able to bring my hero down. Unlike you, Hero is resting now. I am wondering how many hours I've spent getting the guy up to Level 71. Nope, changed my mind, don't want to know. It would be too hard to try to explain to family and friends.
Mac Port? @Madgarden - I know this probably isn't the right place to ask this, but since you're so frequently on here... Any chance of getting an updated port on the Mac? Rendering the whole map with this new graphical style would be awesome on the "big screen". I know there's the "official remake," and it rocks, but it revs my cpu to 100%, due to it not being optimized for modern machines and the OS. Anyway to at least recompile that one for modern software/hardware? I'd pay for it - easy.
Hey guys... We're totally planning on doing a Mac/PC version. It will come along after this update, possibly very soon after.
