Well, looks like I ran afoul of my first bug. I descended a set of stairs that apparently led to my homescreen. When I went back in I was where I started when I started the game, so I lost all progress. Fortunately I'd only been playing for 15 minutes or so, but I did lose a war shield which was unfortunate. I dunno if it's better than a metal shield but it sounds like it is. On the other hand I did discover not to go into that small enclosed chamber with the skull door that contains only a pit trap that drops me 4 floors and can't be opened from the inside. (Fortunately I was able to climb back out of that one and teleport out of it.)
Quick question, when you die, there's no respawn right? Seems kinda weird that I can still open my game file and see myself dead on the floor but not do anything =P
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm going to restart in Squire mode for a little while then I was going to suggest sticking the permadeath thing in the difficulty descriptions, but upon rereading them I realised I just skimmed over them too quickly the first time and missed it Are there any other differences between Squire and Hero mode?
Squire mode is just all around easier, and regardless of what name you give your hero, you'll only ever up show up on the score list as "Nancy." (I may or may not be kidding about the last part. )
Yeah, Squire is easier, as is Hero which is basically Squire with permadeath. However, Legend mode has more devious enemy behaviours, no "nerfing" of early level monsters, etc. You've not known fear until you're attacked by a fully armoured Warlord who's just quaffed a strength potion and cast shield.
Hey, I think I met that guy last night... right before he ended my latest attempt on the 16th floor as I was fumbling in my inventory. You know what they say: 37th times the charm!
I'm getting addicted to Legend Mode now. It is so incredible!! Of course, I died sooo many times I don't remember. Right now I am evading death by inches. I was on the 4th floor and fell to the seventh with almost no experience. I was frantically searching for a way up!! I barely made it back to gain some experience before continuing on. Really, after experiencing Legend Mode I can't go back to the other modes!! This is really a GREAT game!!
Got another noob question about Squire mode When you die and lose your items, can you go back to where you died and get them back? (a la Diablo 2). I've been searching around trying to find where I died for a while and just realised I might be on a wild goose chase...
I'm looking forward to getting into Legend mode but I'm still plowing through Hero mode. I'm not finished exploring all the new stuff.
Yes, your stuff is dropped where you died, and there's a chance that when you return you can get it back... if someone else doesn't grab it! Otherwise you've got a fight on your hands...
You can get it back! Watch for where you were if you die again, and even "check in" at a temple and fate will be kind enough to send you there each time (the last one visited). — Jeff PS: Oops! Sorry for the double answer..
Ah, cool. I didn't realise what squire mode was. I read somewhere someone said, "You can't die in squire mode." and I thought, "Oh yeah, well I've almost died a few times, so I must really suck." Now I know he meant
Crashed in Version 1.01 Hello everyone, I read good parts of the thread, but not all, it takes a long time. Sorry if I missed an important clue about this. I installed vs 1.01. on my Iphone 3G. (did not have an earlier version). I opened the game, selected the Tutorial, crash to Dashboard. I tried 2 more times, the same. So I started the game, and that worked. [...] THEN I had the problem that 2 times my progress was not saved when I left the game. I found no save function (and I now read it saves only when exiting) so I gathered I will quit it by going to the dashboard. I lost half an hour of play each time, I was on a different map with different equipment in both cases. Both times sent me back to the same old save game. So, the next time, after I played for an hour, I made sure to exit properly. I paused the game, then went to the main menu, then carefully closed the game which took a few seconds, so I hoped for a working save. BUT now I crash every time as I click "continue". The loading bar fills 98% then I hear 1 second of music and crash. I tried 7 times, with different setting (disabling videos and music/sfx). In total, I had a very rough ride with an awesome game. Now my save game is not accessible (and I only played for three hours, I can only imagine how annoyed I would be if it were after 50 hours). Any help, other than waiting for the next version?
Hey Madgarden & co., I've been wondering what the numbers that display on the lower corners of the maps are? I guess it's something obvious, but I haven't been able to work it out yet.
