    Didn't mean it too seriously.
But my experience with Squire was, as soon as I realised that I cannot die in this mode, I totally lost interest. Since it's all about not knowing how far your journey will take you. This is part of the fun I get out of it, I guess. To get killed after days of hard work :) As stated some times before, it's not about the goal, it's about the path. And then, if you reach the goal, it's an even bigger impact... really big :)

But of course, it is fantastic to reach the widest audience possible.
And Legend is way too hard for me too :)
I'm still kind of a casual guy. Hero mode is simply perfect for me.

So far. Cheers to all the rogues out there.

Oh I dunno, I'm having a pretty good time on squire mode and I'm pretty sure I will feel accomplished when (if) I retrieve the sword as a squire. I have tried every mode. Squire is my favorite for just adventuring around.

    Hello all,

Lots of good discussion about difficulty levels; making the game challenging enough while keeping it fun and approachable for people that are new to roguelikes (addressing the "beefy"-ness factor as Paul says).

I am of the opinion that we have an opportunity to make the adjustments that Paul is talking about by keeping "Squire" and "Hero" relatively unchanged while thinking of "Legend" mode as being the most challenging, perhaps adjusting it in ways that Paul (Madgarden) has been talking about AND offering some fun new surprises and rewards in that mode.

Also, I have to say that Paul is the Master of balancing the game. Usually when he has seen a way to improve the balance of the battle experience or the levelling up, hit points, etc., his adjustments are subtle and sophisticated and don't upset the play experience in a negative way. Paul and I will discuss the game's balance, but I believe that if any changes are made they will continue to honor the levels of play that people have grown to like, but also continue to give people "options" so they can play as challenging or relaxed game-style they would like.

    Just my two cents!

  4. Oh, I trust Paul's sensibilities; obviously he's done a fantastic job so far and I expect that will continue unabated. However, I also know how easy it is to fall into the trap of over-focusing or overthinking certain things, developing a bit of tunnel vision and inadvertently lose sight of what you were aiming for in the first place. Or maybe that's just me. :)

Hi, Jeff. I agree with most all you said here. But, since I'm spending all my time in Squire and Hero modes (for the same reasons as Mrs. Madgarden suggests), I sure hope that there will be new stuff and surprises/rewards added to those modes as well as Legend.

I don't mind dying, can always start a new game (which I do), but I want the simple adventuring and finding cool stuff to continue to hold my (nearly obsessive) interest.

bluwomble88, good ol' telepathy potion. :)

Doffie, I always make the changes across the board, and for Squire and Hero mode the difficulty is just lessened in a variety of ways. Everything else is the same though. At one point we thought about limiting Squire mode, but then realized... people just want to play! So we'll let 'em. :) And that's what we'll continue to do.

    well

I tried - and tried - to ignore this game.
"$5 is too much", I told myself.
    "You've already got RogueTouch"
"You have 160 games on your touch and would have to delete something"

    I think I need Fargoal.
I think I may get it tonight..............

You'll save much more than that in therapy bills! :)

Even CommanderData recommends this game! ;)

Only 160 games? Hah! (Says the guy with 538 apps  on his iPod.)

Go buy the game already! :D

Yeah I'm not jailbroken so I'm at maximum with 160, though. You don't have to go through the agony of deciding which title to delete from your device each time you buy a new game. Kinda sucks. Cant wait for touch 4G and the folders that come with OS 4.

I'll get it, I'll get it.
You gotta help me pay for my divorce lawyer, though... your fault after all.

Not jailbroken either. "Hidden" apps can be found using search. (And/or you can glitch more pages if you want...)

    Enjoy the game! ;)

Glad to hear you're getting it! You won't regret it.

I've still yet to get the sword  I got to floor 20 once...

Don't you worry Doffie, I've got your back here! Having me around to get that casual player perspective helps, or at least I'd like to think it does. I know he doesn't keep me around for my mad cooking skillz! It wouldn't be like him to put any ubber awesomesauce stuff into the game that we all can't have and play with, anyway. I have a few things I will be pulling for, side quests and such, that will keep us explorers interested just as much as the hack and slashers.

Super having _ both_ of you to count on, Mrs. M. Also neat, I admit, to have another skirt around on this board. Okay, I never wear skirts but you know what I mean. And I probably should thank you for whatever sacrifices you make being married to your madgardenly-coding husband.

  17. It seems to me you're subconsciously trying to tell yourself something. I can only imagine what that is.

Yes, you need it. Yes, you need it. Yes, you need it. Yes, you need it. Yes, you need it. Yes, you need it.

I already deleted an app to make room for my precious...

  19. There, that wasn't so hard, was it? One quick rip and the pain fades quickly. You're committed. You can't turn back now -- would you make that app's death be for nought? On, of course not. It must have meaning. It must have died for a worthy cause, and Sword of Fargoal is that cause.

Now go forth and kick some ass.
