I agree. When I have the Fear effect and can't attack I just stand my ground and let the enemy attack me first. I'm too afraid to fight but if I stand my ground I can fight back to defend myself, it seems right that way
Alright, the nays have it. I'll keep it the same... with a couple of little tweaks. Seems to me that you'd feel safe and calm if you were standing in the temple. Also, when you're all twitchy and afraid, certain other things suffer. So, I'll enrich the overall behaviour. Just like I have for some other stuff this upcoming build.
Maybe Beacon could cure fear? With the swirling mist and ability to teleport to a temple it's the safest place in the game. It's also rare enough that players won't use them unless they really need them
I never ever use beacon. Just don't know why. Never needed it, so I always really have a lot of them. Will open a little shop on floor 13. "Rocco's Beacon Bar"... visit me there.
I save them all for the end of the game when I'm planning my route to escape with the sword. I'd happily buy all your beacons if it means liberating the sword from the legendary dungeon again
Gah! What's goin' on?! I think I've been hoodwinked. I was on floor 12 today when I got a message on-screen saying that I felt the sword was near, on the floor below (I don't recall the exact phrasing). So, I toodle around on floor 12, exploring all the rooms and side tunnels, then I felt like progressing on down to floor 13. On floor 13, another message on-screen says the sword is nearby. Also my own sword begins to glow really bright red at certain moments. I explore a few rooms and out from the fog pops this drawf with a huge glowing sword. I sprint over and engage the lil' bugger in combat, he flees, I give chase (he's quite a speedy tike for having such short legs) and pull him into a fight again and defeat him. The shiny sword he was carrying falls to the floor. On-screen message says something about the sword again, I walk onto it and pick up. Message says I've found the sword, hooray! Wait a tick, on floor 13? But, it's a big shiny sword, somebody's gonna want it back, so I fast-feet it to the nearest upwards staircase, leaving a hero-shaped cloud of dust behind. I quickly climb up a couple of floors, making my way to another set of up-stairs when the corridor is blocked by a dwarf. I fight him, he steals the sword (drats!) and tries to dash off. Being confined to a corridor, his getaway is meager as I quickly catch up and dispatch him. I recover the dropped sword and the game again says I now have 'the sword' and to take it to safety. Using some Invis-I-Spells(tm)(patent pending) I have no trouble at all quickly making my way up to floor 1. The entrance stairs in sight, my heart racing, I'm about to beat the game for the first time... I get to the stairs leading out... try to climb them... "Not without the Sword of Fargoal." Huh? Try again, same message, "Not without the Sword of Fargoal." Gah! I think that dwarf down on floor 13 (you know, "thirteen", that odd number, bad hoodoo and all that razzamatazz), he sold me a bum sword. I've been tricked. Am I right?
Yes, it is indeed a bum sword. The real sword is only on level 20. There's a bug (that I fixed) that could sometimes spawn a sword in a spiral vault if there is a pedestal in the center... weird eh? Fixed in the next update, ETA Sunday submission. But the whole idea of a fake sword is a good one... sometimes these bugs trigger some neat ideas.
Haha! Ya know, the whole caper is rather humorous. I took it all in stride. Figured it was some surprise way of throwing adventurers for a loop. I fell for it, HLAS. You hit it right on the head - floor 13 in my game does have one of those spiral trap rooms. The dwarf I fought, then chased, then defeated to grab the sword - I had to chase him a few steps into the first section of that spiral trap. So what happens now with the Sword of Fakegoal? Floor 1 in my game has a vault with a switch-operated door, I was thinking of locking it in there. But the fake sword isn't listed in inventory so I'm not able to drop it. If I let a humonoid on floor 1 steal if from me, where is he going to run off to? If he takes in down to floor 20 like I'm assuming the game's AI says he's supposed to, when (if! haha) I get to floor 20, there's going to be two swords there! I'll figure something out. Right now, even a fake SoF is like painting a bull's-eye on my platemail. haha
Bought the game yesterday, can't do anything else aside from playing this awesome game that I missed when it originally came out for various reasons (huge backlog, waited the update...). Loving it so far, just died with my very first hero on level 7. And I've never played a roguelike game before nor was particoularly interested in those kind of games (always thought they were soul-less). Oh boy!!!! This game HAS definitely a soul and spread elegance in every part. Highly reccommended.
Thanks Pitta! wobblez, I pushed it back to Sunday because I'm working on a contract. Also I wanted a bit of extra time to add some stuff, rather than just fix bugs. IS THAT OK?!?! KrakeN72, hmm, you can probably just let someone steal the "sword" and forget about them, or just hang on to it 'til the update. The bum sword will magically disappear once the update happens.
Course it is..... you didn't really expect me to keep quiet over an obvious opportunity like this did you!?
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've played this through another friend's ipod and I loved it. Been hoping for a cool sale so I could snag a copy of my own, but free??? I feel like I'm stealing such a high quality game. Thanks soo much for the give away!
