Thank god, it'd be really hard to pick only 1 out of 50. Haven't gotten anything this week yet, but so far I'll nominate Tiny Wings 2.
Super Ox Wars Maybe for the big poll, it can be broken down into brackets, and we vote one at a time. It's a lot of work, but saw the site http://challonge.com/ where the organizer of the contest can list all the games and create a randomized bracket...update the results. But not sure how we can do the voting though..daily votings seems too much.. But a vote every week is too slow.. Or 2 polls every 2 days? Anyways..just throwing an idea out there.
I'll be putting up the poll later today, so more nominations would be very welcome, please. As for the GOTW OTY, I'll probably put it up after this poll is up. The format would be quite familiar to the regulars: I will add all the games that won GOTW in the past year in the first post, and open it for nominations. Everyone will have a chance to nominate 5 games from those. The nominations would be open for at least two weeks, possibly 3. 10 of the most nominated games would be added to the poll, which would be open for another 2 or 3 weeks. At the end of that, a winner and 2 runners up will be announced. ????? Profit? Any points of contention to those basic rules? I'm thinking of maybe allowing more than 5 nominations. Was thinking 10, but that feels like a bit too many, so instead 7 is my current consideration.
Just come back from a super busy weeks and I realize that I miss the update for 3 weeks of TAGOTW and I miss lots of sales. Sigh.... Id rather see 2nd and 3rd place games there that obviously Ended up being better than the winners... Also I think for nominations or polls at some point possibly the finals people should pm you or whoever there list of the final games in order from 1st to last with 1 getting the most points and so on, and if a poll only senior member can vote.
How about I post the top 3 of each week of GOTW and allow (let's say) 5 nominations. From the 5 available, 3 must be from the winners and the other 2 can come from anywhere, either winners or second/third places? Maybe I should have a poll on which rules to use. Anyways, this poll is going up in a few minutes, get your voting fingers ready!
I've just updated the TAGOTW archives, why don't you just send people to that thread and they can nominate up to 5 nominees. Sometimes when you put only the pic, most people will not even know what the games are. I like the way you propose the nominations : either 5 all TAGOTW winners OR 3 from the winners and other 2 from the 1st runner ups or 2nd runner ups.
How about making several posts, categorising the games, i.e. best RPG of all who came 1,2,3 through the year, best platformer, best physics puzzler etc
That would require detracting from the established format of the GoTWs and turn it into a GOTY, which I'd rather not do. Also, it would be a crapton of extra work.
No real contest this week. Super Ox Wars is clearly the best game. Also props to Swift Stitch for making it onto two polls in a row As for the big poll,I think people are trying to over complicate it. 50-some potential nominees is enough. If a game didn't win GOTW, it shouldn't be eligible, even if it turned out to be great. This isn't a GOTY poll, it's GOTWOTY, a poll to determine the best GOTW from the first year of the poll. And I also think the mechanics should be just like GOTW, no nominations of different values etc. but whatever if you want to make your own job more difficult, go for it Can't wait to see that thread.
Not to be a pest because it's too late now and I didn't nominate anything (although I do own Tiny Wings), but do you think it may be a bad precedent to have Tiny Wings "2.0" in the noms? I'm just afraid it's going to be hairy going down the road to draw the line between totally new games and existing games with huge updates. If we went by this, Major Mayhem would have qualified as well as the game was pretty much completely overhauled with tons of new modes, etc. Anyway, just my 2 cents. Obviously, I'm in the minority with everyone voting for Tiny Wings. It was kind of slow week as far as big releases.
In fact, I have the special love with Tiny Wings, that's why I did my vote. However, what you're right, I don't even aware of this difference between Tiny Wings "2.0" and the rest. What you says, that makes sense!
