Tough one for me, Super Ox Wars or Metal Slug. Think Metal Slug personally wins it.

(Nice to see the first 0 voter ! rider43 !)

    Metal Slug, easy!

While i love Tiny Wings, I don't get why it's up here. The game received an update to version 2.0 with retina visuals and with a new game mode. It's not a newly released game for this week. I am not following the voting each week but is every game which received a new game mode (or alike) due to an update usually included in the poll for the newly released games of that week?
Don't get me wrong, Tiny Wings is an awsome game but it's not a new game and a new game mode does not make it one IMO.

If we are purely discussing the new iPad release of the game, it may be a different story. But the poll states Tiny Wings 2.0 which is clearly the updates iPhone version only as the iPad version is called Tiny Wings HD.

agreed... if that were the case... there should be a couple more games that should have been available for the nominations... (Major Mayhem!)

Tiny Wings is in no way eligible. Seems like a sloppy week in general (swift stitch was on last week's poll to so also should not be there). The iPad version, Tiny Wings HD, should be eligible since it was a new release.

Tiny Wings doesn't belong here. I vote Metal Slug 3.

Agree Tiny Wings shouldn't be on the list. It's an update not a new game

Whys more depressing is that people still voted for it!

If not for the "goodwill" (replace with any word you think appropriate) of the developer, Tiny Wings 2.0 would've been a separate game.

As for Swift Stitch, that's my bad, I wasn't here the week before and didn't even notice.
Only 8 games have been nominated anyway, so I put it up there since someone mentioned it. Lesson learned.

Um, but it wasn't right, so it isn't eligible. Are we gonna start interviewing every dev who updates their game every week to determine whether they were considering a separate app? If not then TW deserves no special treatment. If it wins, which it likely will, this week's poll will be a joke.

That's a very weak argument. Every update with a new game mode could be a new game then. Or any update with retina graphics as it *could* be a new app with "HD" in its name. It's always "goodwill" of the devs to release subsequent updates for existing games.
Personally, I believe that if Tiny Wings 2.0 had been released as seperate app, it would have been ripped apart because it simply lacks innovation and new stuff to be worth of a standalone app. Therefore, the move of the dev to release this as an update while simultaneously releasing an iPad version was a very smart move.

Anyways, Tiny Wings 2.0 is just an update. If the weakly poll is only about new releases and never includes updated games, Tiny Wings 2.0 should not be up there.

Echoseven, don't worry we are still very thankful that you do this for us. But I do have to agree that Tiny Wings was a stretch. I actually think Major Mayhem was given a bigger overhaul/update, but didn't nominate it.

Probably better in the future to just stick with completely new games to avoid people trying to nominate updated games every week. It's like opening the flood gates.

But thanks for the great job you do on this! We do appreciate it!

Meh, I was going off the TA (and really everyone else's) coverage of Tiny Wings. It's been treated as a whole new game, so I figured I might as well put it up.

And hey, it was the most-nominated game (update?) this week.

No biggie. Just thought in the future, you might want to have rule against game updates. There's a lot of games that get substantial updates. I would just hate to see the GOTW start to get bogged down by people starting to nominate every one that comes out. I'm not even voting this week because I didn't pick up any of the (other) games.

I don't think any new rule is necessary. The guidelines already state that only games released between date x (week start) and date y (week end) are eligible. Tiny Wings was not released this week, it was updated. That's a completely different thing. Tiny Wings HD is the only TW release that is eligible given the already existing rules/guidelines/precedents. That said, I do agree with the above posts that echoseven does a wonderful job at a difficult task with these polls. Mistakes happen, and I happen to think that's what this is.

I was going under the assumption that Tiny Wings HD was the same thing as Tiny Wings 2.0...

No, it's a new, iPad only, release. I guarantee most of the people voting for TW aren't playing/voting for the iPad version. Now whether or not people would still be voting for TWHD based on playing regular TW is a different question, and in most cases it seems HD versions do only slightly better on this poll than iPad only releases with no iPhone counterpart, so I doubt it would garner so many votes, but it's a popular game so maybe. People can after all vote for whatever they want, whether they've played it or not. All I'm saying is TW shouldn't be on the poll. I don't think I saw any nominations for TWHD, and TW wasn't released this week. Anyway, I'll get on with my life now :p

Edit: I will add that I've questioned in the past whether HD versions should themselves be eligible when their previous iPhone release already was. Personally I think not, but technically they are new releases, and they have been in the poll several times so that precedent has been set. Personally I feel it is almost like rewarding people for releasing separate versions when most would actually prefer a universal update (which isn't going to be eligible since its not a new release).

I don't think this is a good indicator as every extremely popular game would be elected GOTW after any update. Let's just assume that Angry Birds would get 5 more levels as an update. If you'd put it up on the poll, I bet it would win just because of its overall popularity, no matter how insignificant the update might be.

Anyways, while I think that Tiny Wing 2.0 should not be up there and the this week's poll will definitely be distored, it's not the end of the world either ;)

I agree that Tiny Wings does not belong in the poll, but I never played it and I bought and am enjoying Tiny Wings HD, so I voted for it.

I would also argue that Amazing Alex is not really a new game either and also does not belong in the poll. But it could get by on a technicality whereas TW does not.
