Wow. Hell of a ride. It's the series that brought serial television back to the mainstream. If it wasn't for 24, shows like Lost, The Wire, The Shield, BSG etc would be relagated to tiny forums instead of the mainstream watercoolers of today.

It also personally brought me back to accepting stories on television to be as entertaining and resonant as any movie. And it has established itself as a classic. I know now how my old uncle felt when he described watching old cowboy shows with joy back in the day, and hopefully years from now I'll be describing witnessing TV magic, from start to finish, to my kids. Thank you 24.

Yep. As interenet TV like hulu and youtube and Google TV become the thing, regular shows become more and more obsolete.

But you know what they say, out with the old, in with the new :D

It is the only season of 24 that I missed - however I am looking forward to the DVDs.

It's a good substitute for talent in story writing.

    Wait... What's 24?

I thought this was going to be ANOTHER Lost thread and I was coming here to say that Lost should have ended after season 2, instead of becoming the cash-cow that it did, but.... 24?

An invincible Jack Bauer played by Keifer Southerland saves the world 8 seasons long. The end. :)

It's basically a big long list of clichés and plot holes. Apparently the badass action makes up for it.

When done right it can make a seemingly standard traditional tale seem new. Style and gimmicks are necessary in something new, otherwise we'd just have typical beginning-middle-end-closure stories.

I love something that is filled with double meanings, plot twists, vague endings (just like real life), and surreal imagery (anything can be made surreal - even a bag floating in the wind).

When you speak of talent in story writing - what type of story do you typically read?

I read pretty much anything - from classics to new works. The special place in my heart though is when I read something completely out of left field - Naked Lunch, Still Life With Woodpecker, The Stand, The Great & Secret Show, Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas, etc. etc. - are all books that at the end left me with a sense of questioning which I think is important in any art.

Of course I love pop-corn writing as well (I really love reading James Rollins adventure novels), but once I'm done with it I just move on - it is to easy to digest.

In television there are few shows that have done this well - Fringe, Lost, Twin Peaks, and to a lesser extent 24 & The X-Files all left me with a subtle questioning of what I had just seen, but not to the extent that some film and books have left me with.

I can't believe they did the final season without Tony. He could have at least made an appearance towards the end

Great Season, Great Series. If I'm not mistaken, aren't they making a movie?

    On another note:

I thought that "the first of modern day serial television" was The Sopranos.

24 is quite possibly the worst series ever made. I never understood why people liked it so much, and why the hell it lasted so long..

Nonetheless, I'm stoked that its done with.
