2 tech support tickets were opened and we also nicely asked Apple to no avail. The update was submitted last Saturday and has been languishing in a queue ever since.

I don't pretend to know why, it's unfortunate.

They probably read these posts and set it back six hours for every time someone mentions it.

Did you request an expedited review? Good luck with the update btw!

Yes we did and it said that we will hear back within 1 or 2 days. However, we never heard back and we are still waiting.

Probably wont help but i just sent Apple a tech email about how long does it take for updates to appear, indie devs need a quick turnaround if their apps just come out and needs an urgent update, sure if this was Gameloft it would have happened already ;)

The game is 278MB installed and requires 55MB for the download. When a game has two different sizes like this you need to have both the install size plus the download size in free space to get the game to even start downloading. So 333MB at minimum would be needed and the end result is still an install size of nearly 300MB. You should research a little before posting. It's not that hard to click on Settings -> General -> Usage and look the game up to see how fat it is.

The complaints about controls are LEGITIMATE. STOP Putting down the customers. It's a shame the dev didn't have any real gamers test this before it released. Sometimes you gotta branch out beyond your four walls and accept critical feedback with some humbleness rather than act all high and mighty that the gamer just isn't doing it right. The controls in this game are garbage.

Saying the customers are wrong and the dev is right or that the dev should get a free pass for releasing a game with controls that the majority of gamers think are bad is just bad business. Most of the people in this thread that aren't the devs are the real diehard iOS gamers that the dev needs to spread the word about the game. Putting customers down that actually bought the game and are sitting here patiently waiting for this update is biting the hand that feeds.

Pixel art is not just anything drawn one pixel at a time. Pixel art is a generic term regarding all game art that is created to show the individual pixels and let them stand out on a flat 2d plane. I knew a lot of GBA devs that drew by hand on paper, then scanned it the work and remade it with pixels through programs and I'd call that pixel art even though it started out as freehand drawings. I think Shantae is a good example of this... and yes that game has loads of great pixel art. When it's wrapped around polygons we call this texture work. Maybe it's different behind the scenes and some level of snobbery defines things another way but to the gamer this game has some great pixel art... with bad controls. It's a legitimate view for a gamer to have that bought this thinking it would be a solid gaming experience. IF they didn't like pixel art they shouldn't have bought the game.

More on the whole pixel art thing, the listing for the game has quotes from various folks and one of them is from Indiestatik mentioning the "attractive pixel art". So even the dev represents the graphics in this game as pixel art.

Overhyping the artist only makes you look like a complete snob. The whole package has to work together to be a complete game and the controls are a huge let down. I don't think the person that made them should be fired, as one review on the appstore suggested, but I think the QA/QC testing was bungled big time by both the testers and the devs and the result of that is negative feedback.

I, a patient customer that bought this game on word by the dev that they'd fix the controls ASAP, am starting to feel really negative towards the entire attitude you have taken towards the customers. Something SimianSquared posted really has started to rub me the wrong way as well. He posted:

When a dev says garbage about releasing on droid first it is a huge put down to all of the paying customers here that bought this game and believe that the dev is honestly trying to do a good job. You get some honest feedback from people and you guys go off the deep end. IS it just to create hype while every gamer here nearly is sitting on their collective hands waiting for the update? We don't need that kind of melodrama and I think I'd just outright delete the game and go ahead and post my own negative review if I was convinced this was the case with all the sour posts here. Grow a pair. You (I'm lumping all of the people responsible for this game together here) released a game with controls that were half-baked and you blame people for calling you out on it. Deal with the consequences and grow a little humble instead of inflating your own egoes that something isn't going perfect yet and you haven't made your millions in appstore game sales and it must be the gamers fault or the reviewers or the competition plotting your downfall.

Seriously, my patients with you guys is growing ever so thin. Maybe think a bit more before posting and complaining about the customers. You guys need us a lot more than we need you right? I mean things could certainly get a lot more negative towards this game and it would all be because of your own arrogance and lack of humility.

^Great post, must admit if i had read his responses before i had bought the game i wouldnt have bothered buying it.

We're the buying public, what next ? You take something back to a shop and they refuse to serve you ? Do they say 'well tough ?'.

Theres a lot of people commenting on the controls, be interesting to see how they tested it, did they have a team of friends testing it or was it just them thinking 'these controls are perfect'.

Normally i would delete and move on but 'most' of us here just want this game to be updated as we can see the great potential in it. But i agree with lots of nightc1's post, its annoying if you think we're trying to ruin this game being 'hardcases' slating it everywhere. Its actually the opposite, told loads of friends about this game, said it'll be brilliant once the update hits (and that could be anyday soon).

But does he honestly think its other devs trying to give 1 star ratings ? Seriously? Think Mr Sound guy is not helping you at all SimianSquared

But we're paying customers, doesnt matter if an apps 99c or $9.99, we have a right to criticise (and praise). If you cant handle that you're in the wrong business.

I am sorry I've upset you, I hope you will appreciate the hard work and effort gone into the controls update we are all waiting for plus the free content to come.

I appreciate all forms of feedback good and bad. The droid thing was merely a reflection of my feelings - I am human and really burned out from development. I gave up yet another weekend to to try get the controls to you in time, and I'm sorry if that's not good enough.

But worry not more content is coming as quick as we can make it for you :)

Please check out all the developer responses - you will find we agree with all your comments.

(off topic - sorry!). I must admit i bought an ipod touch a couple of years back (first Apple device), stupidly dropped it on a stone floor two weeks later and smashed the screen, was over the moon when they gave me a free replacement (Think they saw how many apps i had been buying !). Because of that i'm a huge fan, couldnt believe it

    Nightc1:

How much of the last fifty pages of dialogue between devs and players did you read? Apparently not enough to see how massively SimianSquared appreciate ALL feedback and critique, and the extent to which they have incorporated criticism into the update.

Modern games, certainly smaller indie teams, are NOT the same as a few years back. Because of updates and feedback. Lambasting a game that can and will be updated; THAT is the issue. Not the criticism itself. Gone are the days when games were released and that was the game you played forever, and operating a critical perspective based on this outmoded understanding of release/support is at the root of certainly my annoyance at critics and reviews.

You snipe at me, genuinely as if I'm an idiot, for not researching something; how about everyone posting crit without researching the control overhaul update?

Do your own research. Read this entire thread and then overlap what you find with the generalisations you've made in your post. The devs do not think they've made an invincible game. Were this the case, they would not have instantly slogged over an update addressing critiques.

Me? I'm the composer. I have no direct aesthetic, design or programming input. Before you ask. I also do not represent the team.

I really can see how "mr sound guy" might not be helping things here. I'm happy to be silent at the behest of the team! I care far more about the perceived integrity of the game than refuting dam' silly comments. Your call, Chimps :D

I have read this entire thread since the game released and agree 100% with Reticule. The devs have been ridiculously, absurdly, almost COMICALLY humble and patient with even the most negative of criticism. They even started their own meme putting themselves down for the controversial controls.

The people that are saying others are idiots or using the controls wrong are people like me, not the devs. And I stand by it. : )

To be fair to the devs, the comment about "releasing on [An]droid first" was not a shot at paying iOS customers, nor was it some sort of vague threat about future releases. SimianSquared was merely commenting, in response to my comment, about his legitimate frustration with Apple's lengthy approval process for updates, which is much longer than on Android (where developers can upload an update onto Google play and have it populate within hours).

Some devs (like OrangePixel and Hexage) use Android for testing purposes and roll a bunch of minor Android updates (bug fixes and the like) into one big iOS update for this exact reason: a botched Android release is not nearly as damaging as a botched iOS release. Let's just say that iOS users are a bit more ... discerning when it comes to games. Android users are just thankful to have games whenever they get ported! (Full disclosure: I use a Nexus 4 and an iPad 3, so I have a different perspective than many iOS-only users.)

Just relax everyone. Let's just bring it down a few notches. Consider this whole ordeal an expensive lesson learned. I guarantee you that these devs will never release a game without several control options ever again. Hopefully devs who are lurking on this thread have learned from this too.

That's right - I am feeling very envious of the ability to quickly update :) I don't in fact, own a droid device.

Absolutely a good thing for all. Have you noticed much more commentary by reviewers recently about controls? it has always been a subject for discussion but it seems escalated now and it's a good thing.

Am I the only one who really likes the controls? :p

Just don't get your finger off the screen, and it'll work.

But the game is a bit too short for my taste...but for the art and music as well as gameplay...99c is fair

I will replay it again when the iCade update comes out. The boss levels were really challenging! :D

Missed the early launch price, but have a few questions about the game.

    1) Will upcoming chapters be free or be IAP?
    2) Game length? Is it a game where you take your time or more of a speed-platformer like League of Evil?
    3) I was watching the gameplay trailer and that part atop the train looks really cool. I love platforming involving collapsing structures, etc. (think Uncharted). Any more parts like that in the game?
    4) Can you only attack enemies by jumping on them? Any pick-ups or new moves?
    5) Is there any exploration or do you just have to get to the end of level?

Christ, normally I would've replied with something like "sheesh bro, read the thread!"...but yeah, there's not much to this thread than (justified) bickering about controls. :p

Yeah, I know. Was hoping for more impressions rather than continued debate on the controls.
