Agreed! Wtf is with Apple? I want to poke their eyes out...where is my expansion? Wolfenstein RPG will be out soon and be competing with the quest for my 3d RPG needs...

This delay is starting to upset my sleep pattern!

I woke up at 3.00am this morning just to check whether it was in the app store!

    I am cracking up!

The waiting is very painful. I feel like I did when I was a little kid waiting for Christmas day. It feels like it is never coming. I never thought I'd be so excited over a game. Hurry up already! :D

All we can do is wait and hope... Sorry. We know nothing about the expansion pack since we sent it to Apple last week. We hope we must wait so much because this time it will be OK. : )

    Thanks for keeping us updated.

Perhaps they got addicted, can't stop playing this masterpiece and totally have forgotten about us. :D

Ok, maybe this game has too much content to check it within a week.

    Can't find a few quests.

I know the expansion is out, but I wanted to finish every single quest in the original first. Does anyone know where to find/get the following quests?

    • Helping Wireemu
    • Helping Faaghira
    • Bokor's Map
    • Erzulie's husbands' deaths

    Thanks in advance.

Isn't this just the gravedigger in Phryn who sends your char to the Silver Peaks (and it's treasure)? He lives in a hut in a cemetery of Phryn.

Another quest from the same gravedigger, after you have completed the map one.

Woo-hoo, the expansion is out! Now, to get my char to Mithria....

As a few of you have already noticed, the EXPANSION is OUT! :D

You can access it from Mithria harbor at any time (which means that you must reach Mithria harbor first of course). You can also come back to the original areas any time (I mean from the place you arrive to, not from anywhere and it costs money, but at that time in the game it shouldn't be much problem). So you don't have to finish all your quests and explore every area in the base game, you can take a peek right now.

However be warned, it is quite a rough place, the "official" recommendation is to be at least level 14, but I would say it doesn't hurt if your character is at least level 15 and well equipped, and especially, have high magic resistance. ;)

    Happy gaming!

So, with the new expantion, you can move in and out the new place? The profile is sync in both games? Or once the profile is imported in the new game it cannot return to the quest?

Any chance of more expansions coming out?

By the time i have finished this one in about a month, i will be ready for more!

If there is more expansions, now would be the time to put them into apple, so they can reject them once, and then take forever to approve them.

I think a month would be about right!

Ok, I've played the demo for a bit and I'm happy enough with the controls, and quite happy with the system in place. Fits like a glove for an RPG fan like me - which is a good thing!

The one thing I'm wondering about before I bite the bullet and get the game, however, is something that I can't find out by playing the lite version: the story!

Now, this game comes a long way by being 1) on the iPhone, 2) a full RPG with everything I love, and 3) full of missions and side-missions. Just getting that right is relatively rare.

But it's not enough for me.

My big turn-off with most RPG's, and the thing that keeps me from being an RPG junkie is the fact that most of these games have godawful cookie-cutter storylines and missions. I play these games only in part for the enjoyable game system, and I find the story and missions to be at the very least equally important.

So the important question is: how is this game story-wise? Adequate? Unique? Generic, but varied enough?

Can I expect it to be interesting like, say, the Exile/Avernum series, to name a favorite?

The expansion is an expansion. ;) (Just buy it and you'll see what I am talking about :))

But a bit more detailed explanation: When you start the expansion, there will be an "Enable expansion in The Quest" menu point. Tap it, select yes, and The Quest starts, enabling the expansion in itself. After that you can continue playing with your existing character(s) in The Quest. You can also delete the expansion app, as it is not needed any more.

Great job redshift! Love the expansion so far, great challenge... found myself buying a new weapon from there then going back to the regular realm to level up some so I can do better. Also why delete the quest expansion icon from you ipod, then you can't fool around with a randomly generated character in the expansion. :p

    An Exile/Avernum fan!

Hi hilko - welcome to the forums! :)

The Exile/Avernum series is one of my all time favourites. In fact Exile was the very, very first RPG game I ever played. I was bored one afternoon, taking a break from studying, and playing through some shareware games when I stumbled across Exile. And that was well over 10 years ago now. I would love for Jeff to do iPhone versions of those games. I think that because my first exposure to RPGs was the Exile games I am very demanding in what I look for with an RPG. For me to really enjoy and get immersed in an RPG it must be a balanced mixture of gaming. Different characters, classes, skills, weapons, abilities, etc, a mixture of quests, some puzzle elements, some grinding, large worlds and dungeons, a good difficulty gradient and an engrossing story line (yeah I know I'm not demanding too much am I?!). A little bit of everything and not too much of anything. And a good wry sense of humour that underlies the game doesn't hurt either :D.

I really enjoy playing The Quest. Once I got into it I found it every bit as engrossing as the Exile series. There is a story line and the actions you take and the responses you give do influence the overall outcomes. However, I did not find the storyline to be as immersive and detailed as that of the Exile games. Compared to the Exile series there is much less character dialogue. And while the story line does move along it is in a less direct manner than in the Exile games. Sometimes what you need to do is very less clear cut and there are also no real puzzle elements (with one or two exceptions only). I also found the overall gameplay less balanced. Magic is very powerful straight away in this game. In the Exile series Mages and Priest skills are very powerful but are less so at the beginning of the games. Also I thought too many of the enemies are all powerful with magic far too soon in the game for the average player. For example I thought I was never going to be able to get past those damn Shamans! But the game is now one of my favourites. The style of the game doesn't require as detailed a storyline as the Exile series. It does have a storyline and it is detailed but just not as detailed or involved as the Exile series. There are enemies with different strengths and weaknesses, just a lot more of them that are powerful magically really early in the game.

One thing to note however, is that The Quest does allow you to play a really evil character. You can make decisions that will give you a bad reputation and you can steal without it turning everyone against you - just be sure to avoid the guards... In the Exile series you could steal and you could attack villagers, soldiers, etc but this would turn townspeople against you. They would attack you and so you couldn't use the shops, talk to people, accept quests, etc. In The Quest you can do this and while it does effect your reputation which will impact on who will talk to you and what they will tell you, it doesn't turn everyone against you. You can still be given quests and you can still complete them. You may just complete them in a different way. You might end up giving a special item to person B instead of person A. This will impact the overall outcome of the game too. But you can be totally evil and still have a full gaming experience. As you can imagine this vastly increases the replayablity of this game. You can replay and while the general quests are the same the outcomes, impacts and interactions while you undertake them can be different if you replay with a character with a totally different alignment.

I really love The Quest. And I really, really enjoy playing it! However, if you are really looking for exactly as detailed and immersive a storyline as the Exile games then I don't think that The Quest will give that to you. Yes it does have a storyline, but as a fellow fan of the Exile games I know what you are meaning when you ask about the storyline. And for me The Quest just doesn't match it or come close as far as the storyline goes.

Thanks for the detailed post! As I read it, memories of Exile came flooding back. It's really amazing how much of an impression a game can leave - it's been at least ten years since I last played the games. I still remember the amazement of finally going aboveground, the names and 'adventures' of particular party members (still recall my strongest fighter walking around poisoned for much of the game the rest kept healing him), smuggling drugs into and from one particular city and finding an incredibly lucrative trade route. Incredible!

Anyways, I decided to buy the game about an hour ago. It seemed enjoyable and deep enough, and offers enough to make up for 'not being exile' (so to speak). So far I haven't regretted the decision. Aside from NFS, this has been the only game that gave me that elusive 'gaming experience' that once again proves that the iPhone could well be another revolution in gaming, disguised as a smart phone!
