The key is on (given by) a statue in an area of poison bubbles and ghouls, at the far southeastern part of the Abandoned Mine. The Abandoned Mine is a big area, maybe you have more exploring to do.
Welcome back! Still working hard on The Quest. I'll let you know if I have any problems getting stuck or anything.
Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA is a good place to be and I had wonderful, wonderful fun! Thanks!! Spent a lot of time in nature and some time in arcades, f.e., playing Deal or No Deal and other arcade games into the night. : )
sorry if this was already posted, but i dont know where to find the thieve's guild in Port Quarters or Vastras... i have a skeletal key if that helps
You have to get the goods from the Thieves Guild's transport doing the quest relating to the Thieves Guild for the Mysterious Man and then hang out in the inn in Vastares Port Quarter past 12am drinking beer. Once it's past that hour, go outside, they should make you aware of their presence. : ) Make sure you're in the right inn--its innkeeper is Herahn. : )
and may i ask where do i recieve the Thieves Guild for the Mysterious Man quest or did i misunderstand that, or if there is a quest, where do i get it from?
I'm not sure you are far enough along to join up with the thieves quite yet. After moving to the other side of the wall you will encounter the city of phryn, here you will meet the mysterious man. The story unfolds pretty fast here. After proving your usefulness for a bit, he'll take care of setting you up with the guild. Go ahead and roam vasteres a bit more, you'll make your way there shortly.
Alright, so when i first entered his cave he already approached me and attacked me infecting me with flesh eater. i tried to find the sword of god with him attacking my back and at certain stage i just tried to hit him with my normal weapons. that worked somehow, so i killed him with smth like 5 or 6 hits. after that i found the redshift hammer and the sword of god, went back to the abbot and the gov but none of them wanted to tell me anything new. What i found strange from the beginning though is that when talking abbot even before entering the beast cave, there was an empty talk option that remained even after killing the beast. i will try to post a screenshot of that later... anyway, i thought maybe i have to kill it with the sword of god to make it stay dead. so i loaded back to an old save slot and killed the dude with the sword of god. still the same story with the abbot and the gov i even re entered the cave to check if the beast somehow resurrected but no beast there... weird isnt it? Screenshots: 0005: thats what i get when i talk to the abbot before killing the beast 0006: when i ask him to talk about the beast i can only tell him that it is still alive, even after i killed it with whatever weapon 0007: the empty/invisible option, same before and after killing the beast... PS you really know this game off pat dont you?
I know the game very well but I think you have a problem here and will ask Elendil to take a look at your post--not sure what the problem is--but it doesn't look right--I know what those empty boxes mean -- they shouldn't be there, imho. Hang in there! I haven't played the iphone version to the end yet---it may be they had to change things there to get the game through Apple. Not sure but I emailed Elendil for help. There should be a solution.
Hmm. I know the game since its beginning and you have a really bizarre situation there in the third screenshot---that is the ORIGINAL dialogue ice/fire started out with--where the abbott and shusanna go away together, but then it was decided that wasn't quite right and changed the story to where she gets turned into a flesheater---much more dramatic. So unless somehow this dialogue became resurrected in some bizarre way, I think you have a very odd situation indeed that neither Redshift nor I can remedy. You seem to have a collector's item really. But I don't think you can finish the game with it as it is a very old version that I didn't believe was around and haven't seen in a long, long time. Iphone wasn't invented when that dialogue was written. ?
Does anyone else who's played Ice and Fire to the end remember that kind of dialogue???? Not to spoil it for anyone but didn't you find Shusanna as a flesh eater and have the chance to knock her off? The Abbot wouldn't be going anywhere with that Shusanna [shiver]
I also encountered this (although I was able to finish the game with no problem). From what I recall: I talked to the abbot before killing the beast (at this point I think I saw the empty dialogue entry, but didn't click on it). I then went and found the sword, killed the beast, and came back to the abbot. The empty option was still there, and at some point I clicked on it (accidentally, actually) and got the dialogue you quoted above. The option was still there after I had chosen the "right" option ("It's over."), so I clicked on it again, and this time there was no dialogue response, just the line "<new text>" and a message saying that my fame had increased. I could continue to do this (I did it several times, and my fame seemed to increase each time until it was as far to the right as possible...). I then continued and was able to finish the game in what I think is the intended way (I didn't try to find Shusanna again; I may try to go do that). I have a saved game from right before talking to the abbot after killing the beast which I could send you (if someone can explain to me how to extract it...).
Ack! Nope I have the feeling that we' re looking at completely different abandoned mines. I've gone through the whole thing (no grey spots except behind walls or as holes in the ground) and there are no poison bubbles or ghouls of any kind. The map is quite small too... Would this have anything to do with the version or the in game progress? I'm playing on an iPod touch, the quest version 2.2, and I've only gotten through all the quests on the first and second cities so far.
That little box goes back to when Sylon and I first began putting together the story and Ice and Fire. The little box is there because of starting to script a dialogue and then not using that script. That's why I recognize the box and know what it means. Because sometimes you start to script a dialogue but change your mind. But there is no way for those dialogues to be triggered unless your iphone is haunted. There's no script to trigger them.
With regard to the haunted iphones, on looking really, really closely into the scripting on the abbot, it appears that there is a talk topic in there, hidden, from before the story was changed to its modern equivalent. It happens when the scripter begins a talk topic but doesn't use it. It's harmless though, more a trivial curiosity than anything else. It should never display the unused dialogue as there's nothing to trigger that dialogue. It's as though it doesn't exist except for that little box. So we are back to the theory of haunted iphones. If there is any reason ever for Redshift to do an update, they could easily remove the little box but it has no effect on gameplay. Will be back with info on the Abandoned Mine in a little bit.
Abandoned Mine: To get to the key to the door: Spoiler: Go down the hole/ladder in the Abandoned Region. You land next to a sign that says Abandon Your Soul here. : ) Go 8 paces west, turn north, go 6 paces to hole. Go through hole. Go 2 paces north, turn east. Go about 12 paces east, turn south. Go 19 paces south, turn west. Go 2 paces west, turn south. Go 2 paces south, turn east. Go 5 paces east, turn south. Go 2 paces south through the lovely poisonous bubbles. You will see a statue with a key. You will get the Damned Key that will let you open the Damned Door. : )
oh, sorry about that..., i saw that as a "too narrow to go through" passage before... man, i feel dumb
