Yeah, I agree with you. I don't like this direction. I've spent a lot on the content IAPs of this game, and was going to buy more, but this is leaving a bad taste in my mouth, regarding this game AND the developer. Might even block this update.
Where's this school of magic anyway. I do wish they could've launched it sooner. Just a few hours before the update I lost a high level troll slayer to poison. Had to retire him.
Considering this is Rodeo, the same devs who put out the IAP-oppressive Hunters 2, I half-expected them to release a cash grab cheats deal. Just not to this degree, which is what surprised me.
What's with hunter 2? I played it through and through. Never felt any need for IAP. Oh I just checked out the schools of magic. Totally unnecessary. I think they would make much more to charge for selecting abilities. Anyway, still no real money spent except for new contents. Seems pretty fair to me.
I only played through the beginning of it. Not sure why I always think that any IAPs are oppressive. Prob me with history of freemium games. True. WHQ is also pretty fun, and new content is worth the money it costs. So far, aside from schools of magic, Rodeo is doing pretty well with it.
too bad that we won't be seeing lizardmen. And the next title Rodeo brings is in 2015! I wonder how game developers survive such long periods without any income.
Wow, if WQ were to go free now I'd be very reluctant to buy any future Rodeo games. As I've said before, they priced to IAP a touch too high in my opinion. Reducing the cost of additional characters by 99p would have got my money. It might sound cheap but that's a £6.93 saving for me and £7 Rodeo lost out on.
When you are in a dungeon, there is a new icon at the top of the screen. If you click it, you get access to 3 big spells that take one token. You get 3 free tokens, and after that can buy more.
Oh, I see. Not as fun as I thought they would be. Sort of defeats the purpose of playing on hard core.
Have to agree, I haven't bought any of the extra characters as they seem a bit on the expensive side, I've bought all the extra missions IAP though,
Why, you can play the game easily without buying a single thing. You're not forced to buy any IAP to play the game. I don't get the disdain for a totally optional IAP.
So is it ok to update or is this premium to freeium switch take away from the original paid experience?
All it changes is that there is now a button when in dungeons that can bring up a menu for the paid spells.
Generally optional IAP doesn't bother me either. However, WQ has released a lot of content as separate purchases rather than what in many cases would be obvious bundles. Regardless, I purchased nearly everything that was released to support the game. The game was then cut relatively short from being supported, the next region abandoned and a scattering of content released again in separate packages, even more so this time as the monsters were regulated to separate purchases. What follows is little to no contact by Rodeo Games to their fanbase, and then suddenly an unannounced addition of an unnecessary system designed to generate a constant IAP system into the game, without introducing anything substantial to the gameplay. As a fan and supporter of the game, simply put I feel a bit cheated.
I'm a bit sad the way things have turned out with this game, also. I bought all the iap apart from the legendary gear. Money well spent but, I do wish they could have put out some more of the content that seemed to be on the cards. But, business is business
