Mix it up I guess. If you can get a good wizard attack with a large radius on the archers behind the line while your archer and heavies ripp up the frontline. Always strike with your archers blade 1st then loose some arrows.
Anyone play this on an iPad Mini yet? How does it look, and is the text as hard to read as people are complaining about on the iPhone? I wouldn't think so, but you never know.
Weird, so in a sense having a wizard in your party does to some degree increase the odds of ambushes? Even worse, an ambush when the wizard is least able to handle it!
Always end your turn before entering a new area, so you don't get caught short on movement points when entering a battle; try to have a good number of "Winds of Magic" points on the turn you enter a new room, as well. Your characters should be able to cross even the long, narrow "boss hall" in only two turns; when possible, you want to end standing next to ranged enemies so that they'll use inferior melee attacks instead of their ranged ones. You'll also want to take advantage of deathblow chaining, healing items, potions, scrolls (some of which are powerful enough to kill an early boss outright), positioning, and spells to get you through if you're having trouble. In the dungeon I just ran, I was able to chain six deathblows together in a single attack with my dwarf, which wiped out over half of the beasts in the room.
Yep, and this can happen in combat as well if you roll a zero, which is why reinforcements sometimes seem to pop out of nowhere at the worst possible time. It's doubly cruel that such ambushes are deliberately tied to the mage having no magic points to use on that turn. Rolling a zero out of combat will either cause a monster ambush, or play a random dungeon event card on you. I had a beneficial encounter card once, but the vast majority of random events in the game seem to be negative.
Just wanted to say that I am absolutely loving this game. I've bought all the non-consumable IAP and so far worth every penny. I don't like consumable IAPs but I usually mind them less in single player games. So far they seem completely optional so I'm not really concerned about it being an issue. What I am concerned about is the bizarre decision to have to reorient my iPad to get into the inventory screen. I can see this working on my iPhone (haven't played there yet) but my iPad tends to be in a stand plugged in at my desk and having to unplug, take it out of the stand and twist it to portrait every single time I want to get to my inventory seems like a really bad UI decision. If it was an option I think I would rather turn my head when the inventory screen was active (still a really bad option but at least playable) but that doesn't seem to be available. I've played with the iPad in my lap and, obviously, that makes this interface decision a little less objectionable but I guess you can put me down as one of the people hoping for an option to change this behavior in an update. In spite of the forced landscape - portrait gimmick (which I really do hate) I'd still give this game 5 stars. I have been very impressed with some of the recent board game releases (Talisman, Eclipse, etc.) but this is likely to be my favorite this year.
I have lost my party yet (playing at Adventurer level) though I temporarily lost my Wizard once till someone applied bandages. It can be tough for sure, I've had fights with 9 creatures and then ambushed by 5-6 snotlings which is a little deadly. When you first encounter you have the first move so priority goes to the bosses. For instance archer and Wizard should try and take them out. Position warriors beside multiple baddies so that I'd you perform a death blow they can keep attacking. Watch out for Beserk as you'll sometimes hit your own dudes. Likewise the Wizard spells, you can hit your own team so be careful. My group is two at Level 2, 2 at level 1 though both are nearly there.
So my warriors have either blocked, countered, or blocked then countered. Seems random. How does this work? (And I don't think it was after a Deathblow attack) --- What do the icons under my warriors health indicate? The middle one looks like a shield, the right one is crossed swords, not sure what the left is supposed to be.
Just popping in to say after a bit more playing - it's really , really enjoyable . I love the randomness about it, although most of the stuff has been negative it keeps you on your toes. I've lost some gold , but earned much more and I've leveled my characters and looted some nice gear. It took me a bit to get the flow of the game, and I actually forgot the inventory was in portrait orientation and was looking all over for my inventory ha ha. I can see the hours disappearing too easy with this
I played for an hour only, but this game is amazing. I really liked Hunters 1 and 2. This one takes evthg that was good in them, combat and rpg elements, and adds deep story and quests. Really a steal at 4.99
Yes. Go to Settings-->iCloud and make sure Documents & Data is set to "On" Sure it is. Better than extra button presses. It's neat and very functional.
Another review - http://www.quartertothree.com/fp/2013/05/29/in-warhammer-quest-the-emperor-has-no-dice/ 2 stars.
Good advice , plus don't forget your wizard and wood elf can melee attack after their ranged attacks.
Mene has a disability that doesn't play nice with this feature, and many of the rest of us play with our iPads on stands, or in other places where the rotation gimmick is an unnecessary annoyance. It's fine for smaller devices like iPhones, but there needs to be a landscape inventory option for tablets.
Thanks for the advice. My wizard doesn't cast spells. Is there any reason his spells are almost always greyed out. I only get to use the wizards spells maybe once per game. He's got a spell that fires a spark or something but always greyed out. Never been able to attack from afar using the wizard only heal.
