Priority shouldn't always go to the bosses. If you read the bio for he first boss you encounter (Goblin?) it'll tell you he's actually weaker than his minions, so focusing attacks on him means you've just left an entire room full of stronger enemies free to take their rage out on you. It's better to try and clear them quickly so that you're only left with the weaker boss to defend against when your turn ends. Anytime you see a status effect like this appear above the little HUD in the corner, tap and hold on the bar for an explanation.
Oh. My. Gosh. This game is amazing. My GOTW without a doubt, and definitely in the top 5/10 (depending on how the next months go) for GOTY. I have lots of games on my iPad that I love, enjoy, and play daily (or just about). None of them suck me in quite like this game. I typically multitask for, well, everything - so I usually have a TV show/movie/audiobook going on in the background. I can usually follow what's going on while doing other things; in this case, I had to completely pause and close my media player because my eyes were fixed on the screen. Everything I've encountered so far is great - I've done a few quests and a few dungeons, no one's ready to level up yet. Does anyone pray? Is it useful/worth it, and does it occasionally backfire (as in, the god smites you or somesuch)? Also, where did the past 2.5 hours go? Granted, I did spend about 20 minutes finding perfect names for each character, but I've been completely submerged. Stop growling, stomach, I have quests to complete and things to slay! ETA: (Because I always think of something to add right after hitting 'post'.) The journal/book with all of the information is fantastic. The flavor text is great, and the ones explaining mechanics and other aspects of the game have been very helpful. okgottagoplaymorebye
Has Rodeo Games hinted at any future expansions or additional characters? If I recall correctly when they announced the Skaven expansion is was along the lines of suggesting it was the first of numerous others.
How is the iCloud on this? Also is the naming of your party members random too? I might restart since I bought all the IAP characters and start with a modified party. Anyone have a suggestion on a solid setup? Also would you guys do normal or perma death?
Super handy as it explains some of the actual nuts and bolts behind stuff the in-game help only hints at like how the various checks are made and how the various stats factor into these rolls. Lastly, I found out the obvious little bit that, no, just by leaving the wizard at home can you avoid the ambushes. Even with no wizard the "Power Phase" is still checked with the only result mattering a '1'. I love how this wandering monster check really keeps the players on guard and efficient as you clearly can't afford to waste time in a dungeon if there is a chance of an ambush around every corner! Oh but I assume the iOS game has made a slighr divergence from the normal rules in regards to the 1 random offensive, 1 random defensive, and 1 random healing spell rule with the wizard? I always appear to have the same spells with my first level wizard on each dungeon run and they are 2 offensive and a healing spell.
In the game itself that IAP is under a header titled "Region & Enemy Packs", which is a hint there may be more in the future. As always it probably depends on the games success.
Arghhh. Error that I've encountered twice: entering a dungeon, having the pop-up of what I'm fighting, briefly showing warriors, then stuck on transition/loading screen for minutes. Last time I'd just finished the tutorial so I just X'd it out in the multitasker and it came back fine.. but now I'm near the end of a quest. Maybe I'll give it another minute and it'll fix itself... or go into the multitasker and hope it saved somewhere close & not the beginning of the dungeon. :/ Anyone having this too?
Universal Head's one-page rules summary is probably more useful from a player perspective, considering that with this app you don't really need to wade through 32 pages of roll tables, LOS rules and other behind-the-scenes calculation stuff that you don't get to see.
Yes right after the pop up sometimes it just gets stuck and there is a partial black screen and it freezes. I'm sure it's a bug, and I've restarted my device and closed apps running in the background and it still happens once in a while. Thankfully it autosaves often, but it still takes you out of the rhythm.
I don't think I've had my butt handed to me this much in a game in a while. Seems like when it rains it's a tornado! But I'm loving it all the same
Just to add my two bits to the mix.. It's a brilliant recreation of the board game elements with some new twists that make it a really compelling iOS game. Do not let the slightly negative comments dissuade you.. The text is *not* that small on an iPhone 4. If you can't read it then you should be wearing corrective lenses. I do find the rotate for inventory feature gimmicky and unnecessary, not to mention an accessibility issue for those who can't hold their devices.. Hopefully that will be addressed in an update. I found the price remarkably fair, with IAP warranted if you want a fair deal of additional content for a fair price. Pay attention developers, I think this is how game pricing should work on iOS. Also, if you're having problems understanding the mechanics then I assume you completely bypassed the more than adequate tutorial... or have reading comprehension problems. Because everything is explained with regards to turn, casting, etc. I recommend actually reading the journal entries as you encounter them as significant information leading to strategy and decision-making is given to you. Last, the game has been nothing but stable and playable on my aging iPhone 4 (iOS 6). My opinion is buy with confidence, enjoy and support games like these (e.g. Kingturn), and reward a developer who in my opinion has done almost everything right!
Not me yet, but that is because I'm not getting this until tomorrow. But as a roguelike game fan, I plan to only play this on Hardcore.
Great game I enjoy everything about it with the only exception being the inventory screen rotation. I really dislike this feature on the tablet and hope an option is patched in. Annoys the crap out of me and takes me out of my groove when playing. Beware the groove....
Not yet. I'm trying to overcome the whole "dying a lot" thing before taking on perma-death. And I'm a large (and stupid) fan of hardcore modes. For now, I can see that it would just annoy me to keep proving how careless I am at this game!
